Numbers 23

Questions
What do we learn about God?
We learn of God's immutability and absolute faithfulness to His promises. The text explicitly declares, "God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind" (Numbers 23:19).
How is Christ Connected?
Jesus is foreshadowed as the triumphant king of Israel. The oracle states, "the shout of a king is among them" (Numbers 23:21), pointing forward to the ultimate King, the Messiah, who brings eternal victory and blessing to God's people.
What Theology concept is taught?
The doctrines of Divine Providence and Immutability are taught. God sovereignly controls the mouth of a pagan prophet, demonstrating that what "he has blessed, and I cannot revoke it" (Numbers 23:20).
Do we see Law or Grace?
Grace is seen in God's unilateral defense of Israel despite their frequent murmuring in the wilderness. He declares their justification by grace, saying, "He has not beheld misfortune in Jacob, nor has he seen trouble in Israel" (Numbers 23:21).
Personal Application
People should respond by trusting in God's protective promises and realizing the futility of opposing Him. As Balaam admits, "For there is no enchantment against Jacob, no divination against Israel" (Numbers 23:23).
