Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn about God's holiness and his intolerance of disobedience. "And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets." (1 Samuel 28:6)

Christological Connection

While not explicitly named, this chapter foreshadows the need for a true mediator between God and humanity, unlike the false and forbidden medium. Jesus is the one true mediator: "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5).

Systematic Theology

Divine Sovereignty: Even in Saul's rebellion, God's plan unfolds.

Law & Grace

The law is evident in the prohibition of consulting mediums. The absence of grace is felt in God's silence. "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

Personal Application

We should always seek God through approved channels and avoid practices condemned in Scripture. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)
