Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn about God's sovereignty and His limitations on us. He ultimately controls life and death, and His plans are not always understood by humans. We also learn that God keeps his promises by showing the promised land to Moses.

Christological Connection

Moses' role as a mediator between God and the people foreshadows Jesus' role as the ultimate mediator. Moses died outside of the promised land, but Christ was resurrected into the promised land. (Hebrews 9:15)

Systematic Theology

The Sovereignty of God: God's plan for Moses' life, including his death outside the Promised Land, demonstrates God's ultimate authority and control over all things.

Law & Grace

The Law led to Moses's death, but grace offers forgiveness and redemption through Christ. Despite Moses' obedience, he was still subject to the consequences of sin. His death highlights the need for a perfect sacrifice.

Personal Application

We should respond with reverence and emulation. We should revere God's sovereignty and strive to emulate Moses' faithfulness and devotion, seeking a closer relationship with God.
