Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn about God's justice and holiness. He cannot tolerate sin and will judge it. "Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them, and the mountains trembled, and their corpses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still." (Isaiah 5:25) We can see the character of God that he is Holy and just.

Christological Connection

While not directly mentioned, the "vineyard" imagery (Isaiah 5:1-7) can be seen as a foreshadowing of Jesus' parable of the tenants in the vineyard (Matthew 21:33-41), where Jesus is the "son" whom the tenants reject.

Systematic Theology

The passage teaches about the concept of Divine Justice and the consequences of sin.

Law & Grace

The law is referenced in Isaiah 5:24-25 in how God responds to his people breaking the law. Grace is hinted at by the fact that God is reaching out to his people but they are rejecting him.

Personal Application

We should examine our own lives for injustice and wickedness, seeking to live righteously and uphold God's law. "For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged." (1 Corinthians 11:31)
