Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is a promise-keeper and a powerful warrior who fulfills his covenant with his people. "So the Lord gave Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and settled there." (Joshua 21:43)

Christological Connection

Although indirectly, the victories foreshadow Christ's ultimate victory over sin and death. The Kings mentioned in these passage represent evil and satan.

Systematic Theology

Covenant faithfulness. God's faithfulness to His covenant promises is demonstrated through the conquest.

Law & Grace

Law is seen in the obedience required to conquer the land, grace in God's provision and enablement to do so. Joshua 1:7-8 shows that if Joshua followed the law, God will be with him.

Personal Application

We should trust in God's promises, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, remembering His past faithfulness. We should also celebrate the victories that are given to us from God.
