Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is merciful, sovereign, and works in unexpected ways through unexpected people. God is powerful and those who are not his chosen people can still recognize his power.

Christological Connection

Rahab's inclusion in the lineage of Jesus (Matthew 1:5) demonstrates God's grace extending to Gentiles and to those considered outcasts. Her acceptance and protection are a type of the protection and salvation offered through Christ.

Systematic Theology

Salvation. Rahab's story shows salvation by grace through faith, not by works. Her actions demonstrated the genuineness of her faith.

Law & Grace

Law: Rahab was not part of God's chosen people, and therefore not bound by the law given to them. Grace: Her salvation is based on her belief and actions to protect the spies and because of this she was saved and included in Jesus' lineage.

Personal Application

We should be open to recognizing God's work in unexpected places and be willing to take risks to align ourselves with Him. We should embrace God's grace extended to all.
