Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God provides strength to overcome temptation through the Holy Spirit and Scripture. "And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil." (Luke 4:1)

Christological Connection

Jesus is referenced as the Son of God who resists temptation and proclaims the good news of the kingdom. "And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:21)

Systematic Theology

The deity of Christ is demonstrated by His power over Satan and His ability to fulfill Old Testament prophecies. "And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship Yahweh your God and serve Him only.’" (Luke 4:8)

Law & Grace

Jesus fulfills the Law by perfectly resisting temptation and offers grace to those who believe in Him. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed." (Luke 4:18)

Personal Application

We should rely on the Holy Spirit and Scripture to resist temptation and proclaim the good news of Jesus to others. "And He was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all." (Luke 4:15)
