Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God values Unity and working together in community: "Moses said to them, If you will do this, if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for the war, and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven out his enemies from before him." (Numbers 32:20-21)

Christological Connection

The leaders put others ahead of themselves much like Jesus did. "but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men." (Philippians 2:7)

Systematic Theology

Covenant. The agreement between Moses and the tribes represents a conditional covenant, highlighting the importance of faithfulness and obedience.

Law & Grace

The law is represented by the conditions Moses sets for the tribes to fulfill their promise. Grace is evident in Gods allowing them to settle east of the Jordan after they demonstrate their willingness to prioritize the communitys needs. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)

Personal Application

We should prioritize others over self. We must be committed to helping others and keeping our promises. "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." (Philippians 2:4)
