Theological Analysis
What we learn about God
We learn about God's justice and his promise to establish a righteous kingdom. "He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord." Psalm 33:5 We see him as a provider of spiritual transformation.
Christological Connection
The righteous king who reigns in justice is a clear Messianic prophecy, pointing to Jesus. "And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David." Luke 1:32.

Law & Grace
The righteous reign suggests justice and order (associated with law), but the Spirit's outpouring emphasizes God's enabling power for obedience (associated with grace). Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
