There is an appointed time for everything, And there is a time for every event under heaven—— Ecclesiastes 3:1
He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.— Ecclesiastes 3:11
I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it; and God has done it so that people will fear Him.— Ecclesiastes 3:14

Related Scripture

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.Romans 8:28

Scholar Insight

"“God has established a rhythm and order in human affairs, a proper time for every activity (3:1–8). Although human beings yearn for the eternal, they cannot fully understand God’s ways and purposes (3:11). The wise response, therefore, is to fear God and enjoy life to the full extent possible (3:12–15).” - ESV Study Bible, note on Ecclesiastes 3."

Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is sovereign over all time and events, orchestrating everything according to His perfect plan. "God requires an account for what has passed." (Ecclesiastes 3:15)

Christological Connection

Jesus is the embodiment of God's perfect timing, coming at the precise moment in history to fulfill God's redemptive plan.

Systematic Theology

The passage speaks to the Providence of God, His active involvement in and control over all of creation.

Law & Grace

The cyclical nature of life illustrates the insufficiency of legalism, as true fulfillment comes from trusting in God's grace.

Personal Application

Trust in God's timing, even when we don't understand His ways, and seek to live in accordance with His will. "I have seen that there is nothing better than that one should rejoice in his works, for that is his portion; for who will bring him to see what will happen after him?" (Ecclesiastes 3:22)
