Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

We learn that God is loving and gracious, demonstrated through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, for our salvation. He is also powerful and able to reconcile us to Himself (Romans 5:8, 10).

Christological Connection

Jesus is referenced as the one through whom we have peace with God, access to grace, and reconciliation. His death is the means by which we are justified and saved from God's wrath (Romans 5:1-2, 9-11). He is also the "one act of righteousness" that results in justification of life (Romans 5:18).

Systematic Theology

This passage teaches the doctrine of reconciliation, that through the death of Jesus Christ, we can be brought back into a right relationship with God.

Law & Grace

The passage contrasts the law, which increased transgression, with grace, which abounds all the more to provide eternal life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:20-21).

Personal Application

People should respond by rejoicing in the hope of God's glory, trusting in God's love poured out through the Holy Spirit, and living in the abundance of grace provided through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:2, 5, 21).
