Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is sovereign and can use even foolish human decisions to bring about His predetermined purposes. "So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by God that the Lord might fulfill his word that he had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat." 2 Chronicles 10:15

Christological Connection

The divided kingdom is a sad contrast to the unified kingdom promised under Messiah.

Systematic Theology

Divine Providence – God works through human actions, both good and bad, to accomplish His will.

Law & Grace

God allows the law to take its course. Rehoboam has rebelled against God's plan to rule as a righteous ruler. Because of this the Kingdom is divided and God's judgement is shown through Rehoboam.

Personal Application

We should seek wise counsel, practice humility, and learn from the mistakes of others. We should be aware of our own pride and seek to submit to God's will. "Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth." Proverbs 4:5
