Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.— 2 Corinthians 5:17

Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is the great Reconciler. He does not count our trespasses against us but actively orchestrates the reconciliation of the world to Himself through the sacrifice of Christ.

Christological Connection

Jesus is the sinless substitute. He willingly took the full penalty of our sin upon Himself on the cross, acting as our representative so that we could be declared completely righteous.

Systematic Theology

Substitutionary Atonement (The Great Exchange) and Eschatology (The Bema Seat Judgment for believers and the promise of a glorified resurrected body).

Law & Grace

The absolute pinnacle of grace is displayed here. The Law demands perfect righteousness, which we could never achieve. Grace provides that exact righteousness through Christ, freely giving what the Law demanded.

Personal Application

We should no longer view people from a worldly perspective but see them as souls in need of Christ. As "ambassadors for Christ," we must actively and urgently plead with the world to be reconciled to God.
