Scholar Insight

""Isaiah 60-62 forms a unit focusing on the restoration of Zion/Jerusalem. The focus of chapter 60 is on the future glory and blessing that will come to Zion. It depicts a time when the Lord’s glory will shine on Zion, and the nations will stream to it, bringing their wealth and offering their service." (Gary V. Smith, Isaiah 40-66, page 536)"

Theological Analysis

What we learn about God

God is glorious and His glory will be revealed through Zion. He is the source of light and salvation for all nations.

Christological Connection

The light that shines upon Zion can be interpreted as a reference to Jesus, the light of the world. The arrival of the nations bearing gifts resembles the wise men to the Messiah (Matthew 2:1-12).

Systematic Theology

The eschatological hope of the future kingdom of God, where all nations will worship Him.

Law & Grace

The emphasis is on God's grace and the blessings that will be poured out upon Zion, rather than on adherence to the law. The Law is not the focus as the nations are drawn by God's light to Zion, they are not compelled to adhere to any legal requirements to draw close to God.

Personal Application

We should live in the light of God's glory and be witnesses to the nations, inviting them to come and worship Him. "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
